It's been a while :)

Hello fanZandt!  Long time no blog.  We've been busy making music :)

Since the last posting almost 2 1/2 years ago?  We've played at least 25 gigs, learned some new songs and written quite a few new awesome tunes.  We bid adieu to Diane, who has moved on to other musical pursuits.  Doug now plays keyboard most of the time and we welcome the most awesome bass player, James!

One Lane Bridge continues to make music, but we have lost our namesake bridge.  The one-lane-bridge on Potter Road has been replaced by a structurally sound two-lane bridge (though we lament the loss of the old bridge with so much character).  The One Lane Bridge music group, however, now has a monthly gig at Kulshan Brewery on James Street on the first Saturday of the month.

Other than that, Gregg "Lipps" McClaran still plays beautiful horn lines and sings sweet folk tunes, Kent has more time to write music and practice, Joe is just as cool as ever while he marries off two daughters this summer, Robin may be the most prolific songwriter in northwest Washington and Chuck coordinated the "Music on the Mountain" series at the Mount Baker Ski Area.

We have some pretty cool gigs lined up for Spring/Summer.
  • April 30 - bandZandt, One Lane Bridge and Meinhardt Merry play the Conway Muse for a night of all original tunes.
  • May 7 - One Lane Bridge - Kulshan Brewery - we are the regular band for the first Saturday of the month
  • July 30 - bandZandt at the Edison Tavern
  • August 4 - bZ with a return to the most awesome concert in Elizabeth Park
  • August 7 - bZ at the Sedro Woolley summer concert
  • ...and many private parties as well.
  • First Saturday of each month - One Lane Bridge has a regular slot at the Kulshan Brewery on James Street.

We probably aren't going to be doing a lot of blogging - but we will keep the calendar up to date!  We hope to see you sooner rather than later.

One Lane Bridge

Okay - we've been asked numerous times, "why the name change?" An explanation.

bandZandt was, and is, our 7-piece rock and roll band. We still exist and thrive in playing for festive occasions, such as weddings, birthday parties, company parties, summer music in the park and anywhere else that wants great music for dancing. We are still the party band that you know and love, and still have the same name - bandZandt!

The bandZandt Combo was our 4-piece sub-group specializing in singing great tunes with interesting harmonies.  With the bandZandt name, however, people sometimes get confused between the big rock-and-roll group and the smaller group.

So we renamed the combo in order to alleviate the confusion.  We decided on One Lane Bridge.  Why the name?  Well, we all cross a one-lane bridge (pictured below) when we go to our weekly rehearsals.

Bottom line:  bandZandt still exists and is thriving.  The bandZandt Combo has been re-named One Lane Bridge, but still consists of Robin, Diane, Kent and Doug singing and playing covers and originals in smaller, more intimate venues. Among other places, we've played multiple times at the Kulshan Brewery, the Fireside Martini and Wine Bar and at Il Caffe Rifugio in Deming.  In our spare time, we are working on an album of mostly original music.  We'll let you know more about this as it comes to completion :)

Thanks to fanZandt Nation for all of your support!  bZ and OLB

Calendar!!

I didn't figure it would be this tough, but... we finally figured out how to add our calendar of events to the blog. Just click on the "calendar" link near the top of the page and you'll see our upcoming events. Whew! That was bothering me for months! Cheers!

It's been a great summer! Wonderful to see so many old and NEW friends at the various shows we've played.  We still can't figure out how to add the calendar widget to our page, so here are our next few events:

Wed, Aug 28, 7-9 pm: One Lane Bridge at Kulshan Brewery (One Lane Bridge is the new name for the bandZandt Combo).
Sat, Sep 7 (time TBD): One Lane Bridge at Whatcom Land Trust Benefit
Sat, Oct 5: Private Party
Sat, Oct 12: North Fork Public Library Benefit.

Which brings us to another topic.  The bandZandt Combo has changed its name to One Lane Bridge, commemorating the bridge we cross every time we go to rehearsal.  But that's the only thing that has changed.  Still Kent, Doug, Diane and Robin playing covers and originals in smaller, quiter venues.

Summer Calendar

Well, the calendar function of our blog doesn't seem to work anymore, so we'll enter it the old-fashioned way.  Here is our schedule for the summer (as it stands today):

Friday, June 7, bZ Trio @ Il Caffe Rifugio, 6-8 pm
Saturday, July 20, bZ Combo @ Fireside Martini & Wine Bar, 8-11 pm
Sunday, July 21, bandZandt @ Josh VanderYacht Park/Van Zandt Hall, early evening
Saturday, August 17, bandZandt @ Vartanyan Winery, early evening

These are the public performances - we are also playing at a wedding, retirement party and family reunion (three separate events - not all in one) :)

Hope to see you at some of these events!

bandZandt's "No Coal Train" used in another documentary

Straw Bale Films has created a documentary about the potential impact of increased Coal Train traffic in Milwaukie Oregon, and bandZandt's song "No Coal Train" plays a featured role!

"Coal Resolution" documents the response by the citizens of Milwaukie to the possibility of more Coal Trains - a very similar discussion to what is happening in Bellingham/Whatcom County.  They've had some successes in working with local politicians to make sure that the impacts are studied thoroughly before decisions are made.

We are honored and pleased that the song can play a part in this most important dialogue.  The song pops in and out throughout the first 2-3 minutes of the documentary, and then again towards the end in the last two minutes of the movie.

Check out this well-done documentary at http://vimeo.com/53455804.

"No Coal Train" in TVW Documentary

Cool news: Our song, “No Coal Train,” will be used in a documentary being produced by TVW, a cable television station that covers public affairs in the state of Washington.

The documentary, “Coal Crossroads,” aims to present a balanced look about the pros and cons of how coal trains may impact Washington.

"Coal Crossroads" is scheduled to air on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 pm on TVW. We’re not sure how they will use the song, so it will be interesting to watch the show and see how it fits in.  It will also be posted on TVW’s web site at about the same time.

Please feel free to view TVW’s promotional video for “Coal Crossroads” on YouTube.  It's an important issue.
