bandZandt's "No Coal Train" used in another documentary

Straw Bale Films has created a documentary about the potential impact of increased Coal Train traffic in Milwaukie Oregon, and bandZandt's song "No Coal Train" plays a featured role!

"Coal Resolution" documents the response by the citizens of Milwaukie to the possibility of more Coal Trains - a very similar discussion to what is happening in Bellingham/Whatcom County.  They've had some successes in working with local politicians to make sure that the impacts are studied thoroughly before decisions are made.

We are honored and pleased that the song can play a part in this most important dialogue.  The song pops in and out throughout the first 2-3 minutes of the documentary, and then again towards the end in the last two minutes of the movie.

"No Coal Train" in TVW Documentary

Cool news: Our song, “No Coal Train,” will be used in a documentary being produced by TVW, a cable television station that covers public affairs in the state of Washington.

The documentary, “Coal Crossroads,” aims to present a balanced look about the pros and cons of how coal trains may impact Washington.

"Coal Crossroads" is scheduled to air on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 pm on TVW. We’re not sure how they will use the song, so it will be interesting to watch the show and see how it fits in.  It will also be posted on TVW’s web site at about the same time.

Please feel free to view TVW’s promotional video for “Coal Crossroads” on YouTube.  It's an important issue.

Been busy...

Well, it's been quite the summer.  Eight gigs so far (between the big band and the combo), with three more in the next week (two are public).  Everything has been so much fun.  Thanks to all who have turned out - or think about coming out.

Sunday, August 12, the bandZandt Trio (Robin, Kent, Doug) makes its debut at the Bellwether Arts Market.  12:45 pm at the Tom Glenn Commons.

Thursday, August 16 is a most amazing experience.  The big band will party at Elizabeth Park in Bellingham from 6-8 pm.  Upwards of 1000 people have been there the past two years, and the weather forecast for this year is looking good.  Bring a picnic and your dancing feet!

Thanks so much for your kind words and support.  It's always fun to make music, but it's way more fun when people show up and groove the night away!

quadZandt at Il Caffe Rifugio

Ahh, Spring!  It's been a long winter, but spring is awakening (even though it is pouring down rain as this is written).  Longer days - a bit more energy - time to get out!

The bZ combo will be at Il Caffe Rifugio on Friday, April 27, from 6-8 pm.  Doug, Kent, Robin and Diane have been learning some fun new tunes - originals and covers - and are excited to share them with you.  So come on down to Richard's fine restaurant, enjoy exquisite food and wine and help us celebrate the dawning of spring.

"No Coal Train" youtube video

I had the day off on Friday, so I went to Bellingham to have breakfast with some friends.  Then I took a walk along the waterfront from downtown to Fairhaven.  Had a cup of coffee at Tony's.  On my way back I heard a train whistle.  I've been thinking about a video for "No Coal Train" and was in the perfect position to take the video on the bridge above the railroad tracks.  So out comes the phone with video capability...

Take a look at the video (to the music "No Coal Train!").  The train last as long as the song!  It's like BNSF timed it to match Robin's tune (or maybe Robin wrote it to last as long as the train).

No Coal Train!

Two pieces of exciting news today.

1) "No Coal Train" is now on cdbaby.com and itunes. Follow the links to listen to an excerpt and download the single for $.99.  It's our first commercially available single!

2) bandZandt will sing "No Coal Train" live today (Thursday, January 26) at the Squalicum Boathouse in Bellingham.  The event, sponsored by "No Coal!," a newly-formed political action committee, is the unveiling of proposed legislation for preventing coal trains from traversing city property.  The event begins at 3:30 pm and bandZandt is scheduled to perform at 4:00.

New Year's Eve - broadcast live!

Our New Year's Eve event was pretty special - we were broadcast live throughout the South Fork Valley on KAVZ FM 102.5.  Here is the KAVZ:

KAVZ’s first live broadcast took place on New Year’s Eve as bandZandt brought in 2012 in a gala event at the Van Zandt Community Hall attended by hundreds of county residents.  The station can be heard any time of day.  Now that KAVZ is back on the air, the station is looking for volunteers to help make it a viable community station that focuses on local news and information, networking in Whatcom County, playing great music and eventually creating quality locally produced programs.  A website with streaming potential is planned.

bZ Combo to Concrete Saturday

The bandZandt Combo finally (knock on wood) gets to travel to Concrete on Saturday, January 14.  5:30 pm at the Birdsview Brewing Company on Highway 20 in Concrete.  Reportedly a fun place to go, good food and they brew their own beer.  We look forward to meeting some new friends and maybe some old friends will make the trip :)
